Pinho's Famous Custard Cups

One day I will write a post entirely dedicated to the awesomeness of Pinho's Bakery in Roselle, NJ. However, today I'm just going to tell you about one specific item from Pinho's that is insanely delicious....Pasteis de Natas, a classic Portuguese dessert. For those of you that like to keep things simple like I do, they are also known as Custard Cups or Custard Tarts.
The first thing that I enjoy about these custard cups is the cute little custard cup box they come in. C'mon...you know its cute. Anyway...the box says you can't have just one which is totally true. I ate two of them just during the 10 minute drive home!
The lightly crisp and flaky pastry is filled with a very creamy egg custard. I really enjoy the custard, because it has just the right balance of creaminess and sweetness. These pastries are just the right size and the taste of the custard perfectly compliments the pastry cup therefore making it incredibly easy to eat an entire dozen! If you are ever in the area, make sure to get some custard cups (atleast a dozen) from Pinho's Bakery in Roselle, NJ....and stay tuned for a future post about more of their delicious stuff like fresh bread, donuts, cakes, and pastries. Yum!
